The men's champion was Dayle Thompson nett 70 and the women's champion, who won on a chip-off against Sophia Johnson, was Tera Rameka nett 67. In a chip-off for third place Joss beat Rita who both had nett 72. Second place in the men's went to Willie Fakahua nett 73, third was Dixon who won a chip-off against Jack and Joel nett 74. Rita won the twos' jackpot. The Hokianga Classic will be held March 2, tee-off 7am till 10.30am. $25 entry, twos extra. The club's annual men's Captain's Prize and ladies' Whakatere Trophy were played on Sunday. Results had husband and wife Jack and Rita Mokaraka winners for 2013. Okaihau Golf Club The Okaihau Classic 9-Hole Matchplay Tournament was recently played over two days on a very well prepared course. Bob Rosevear's excellent organisation saw the two days run smoothly. Winners and runners-up were as follows: Ladies division: Phobe Cowan and Karon Stewart. Division 1: Hugh McKechnie and Clint Brljevich. Division 2: Alan Donaldson and John Ward. Division 3: Trevor Rollinson and Rex Smith. Division 4: Dick Cassidy and Russell Simister. Thanks to visitors who came from as far away as Ohope and to all the sponsors for their generosity. The prize of a holiday in Australia was won by Bob Rosevear. Kaikohe Golf Club February 3 Cam Sutherland took out top spot shooting a 41 stableford closely followed by Tuk Waititi, Eddie Carlow and Warren Barrington on 38 points, Murray Fielding 37. Twos: Jim Harrison and Lloyd Lemon. February 6 everyone was a winner as a bisque par was played and not many understood the rules. Murray and Ina Fielding beat the Sutherlands, Denny Morrogh and Lorraine Fox beat the Lemons, Trish Walker took on sister Kay Campbell and Cliff Halliday. Nobody knows the result of that match, probably a closely guarded secret. February 7 with the course almost at it's best there were some really good scores. George Penney 18 handicap 64 nett and 43 stableford; Denny Morrogh 84, 19 handicap, 65 nett, 42 points; George Rameka 84, 16, hcp 68 nett 39 points. Clem Lawrence and Eddie Carlow both had 69 netts and 38 stableford. February 10 the club held it's 2013 opening day with president Laurie Byers hitting the first ball which hasn't been found since. Club captain Steve Mokaraka- Adams played a different format this year and got everyone involved with the first two club competitions, much to the delight of the players. Warren Barrington won the EP Smith Trophy with a 66 nett off his 27 handicap; Steve Mokaraka-Adams was runner-up on countback from Tuk Waititi with 68 netts. Murray Fielding won the Beehive Cup also on countback from Alan Nilssen both with 40 stablefords. Ina Fielding won the ladies' competition. February 17 players please be ready to tee off at 10.30am as there will be a lucky draw to see who you will be playing for the first round of the Club Handicap Match Play. BOWLS Coopers Beach Bowling Club The men's J5 Championship Singles started on January 26 and completed February 1. First year men's and women's singles championships were also played. All games were a two-life system of 21 shots or 1 hour 45 minutes, with no time limit for the final/ possible final. Results. Men's J5 Singles: Steve Barber, Murray Pope, Alan Bright, Neil Marr, Roy Pearson, Denis Hailey, John McSorley and Dave Roughton started on day one. After four games, many of which were very close, three one-lifers remained to go through to the second day. Murray received the bye into the final, while Alan and Dave fought it out for the other position. Alan beat Dave 21-16, but struggled in the final against Murray who won the title 21-8. Men's 1st year singles: Peter Morgan, Chris Johnstone and John McSorley started the day. Round 1: Peter had the bye, John took a life off Chris 21-15. Round 2: John the bye, Chris beat Peter 21-11. Round 3: Chris the bye, while John ended Peter's day. Round 4: Possible final taken out by John 21-9 retaining his two lives. Peter and Chris have not had a lot of time on the green and borrowed bowls on the day, congratulations on their performance. Women's 1st year singles: Kay McLean and Joy Lamb went out to do battle. Round 1: Joy took a life off Kay 18-11. Round 2: Possible final, Kay came back and took a life off Joy 21-4. Round 3: Final and Kay took out the title 21-7. Congratulations to Murray, Kay and John and we wish you well when you represent the club at the Bowls Far North Centre Champ of Champs. CRICKET Junior Cricket Will restart on February 23 at Kerikeri Primary School. Competition starts 9am, please be there by 8:45am. All juniors in years 3 to 6 are welcome. This competition is run by the Far North Cricket Association in conjunction with the Northland Cricket Association.
