Photo: MAXINE WYNYARD The inaugural Motown Street Warz went off with a bang on Easter weekend with streets and whanau competing against each other in a weekend of sports and fun. Moerewa is thought to be the first town to create this community initiative -- involving a whole com- munity challenging each other in competitive sports and kapa haka. All streets were required to participate in all events -- touch, netball, softball, top town and kapa haka -- to be able to claim the champion- ship. The champion of the inaugural event was Tauma- tamakuku. Netball winners: Plunket, Pembroke, Reed, William and Stringer streets. Touch winner: Taumata- makuku. Softball winner: Snowden Ave. Toptown win- ner: Leaity St, Station and Factory roads, Sir William Hale Cres. Kapa haka win- ner: Taumatamakuku. Over- all winner: Taumata- makuku, runner-up Snow- den Ave.
