Restricted fire season ends over most of the Far North Okay to light up: Far North district Zone 2 fire restrictions are lifted but care is still required. ' The onus is still on property owners to take reasonable care when lighting fires. ' Rural fire officer Myles Taylor The restricted fire season has been lifted in the southern area -- Zone 2 -- of the Far North dis- trict. Effective from mid- night on Monday, permits are no longer required for fires in the open within Zone 2. However, the restric- ted fire season remains in place in Zone 1 until further notice. Zone 2 is the area south of State Highway 10 between Taipa and Awanui, east of State Highway 1 between Awanui and Kaitaia, south and east of the Kaitaia-Awaroa Rd and south of the Herekino Harbour. The zone extends to the southern boundary of the Far North District. Principal rural fire officer for the Northern Rural Fire Authority, Myles Taylor, says even with an open fire season in place, those contem- plating lighting fires in the open should still use their common sense. If people are in any doubt, they should give the authority a call for advice. The onus is still on property owners to take reasonable care when lighting fires.'' Go to www.fndc.govt.nz and click the Services tab andAtoZIndexfor information about fire permits.
