Friday evening, January 27, and the boats are safely back in harbour at the end of four days of rivalry in the Bay of Islands Sailing Regatta. There were nine protests overall, but per- haps that shows the intensity of the com- petition on the water. Sports commentator Peter Montgomery was on hand to present the prizes. The Bay of Islands Sailing Week is special to New Zealand yacht- ing,'' he said. Where else can you sail to a tropical island for a beach party during a race week and where else can some of the biggest and best boats compete in the same regatta? Need I say more?'' Over 400 children attended last year's event, and it gives parents and children an opportunity to check out sports in their area. Entry is free and the event runs from 10am to 4pm.
