Young poet says it all By EMMA GODWIN WINNING POEM There are six magical steps as your guide; they'll help you to survive in this nasty cruel bullying world that lies right in front of your eyes. With a bit of kindness and acceptance too, RESPECT appears let's see what to do. Treat others how you'd like to be treated. Your help is really important and needed. No matter what kind of day it is for you, remember others have feelings too. With a wave of a wand and a sprinkle of love, ACCEPTANCE is here it includes a big hug. No matter what skin colour, size or shape, no matter what the look of their face, you must accept their differences in every kind of way. With a big quartered apple and me and you, we come to see FAIRNESS is part of life too. Doesn't matter what situation you are in, share and make the right decision and you are all sure to win! A bit of sunrise and a sprinkle of you, TRUSTWORTHY'S here do you know what to do? Secrets are secrets that's how they must stay. If you know someone else's secret will you keep it that way? A game and a friend is all you need to ENCOURAGE each other in what you believe. So if you want to do something, but are too shy to do it, go grab a friend and get working to it. The final step that you must take leads you to an open gate. Where light and fun lies hopefully easier for you to survive. CARING is one little word but the meaning must be heard. Caring is easy, Caring is fun, send a lot of caring to everyone. A smile here and a hand there a few nice words everywhere. And now you've completed the final step here are a few words you won't want to forget. ''We only wish magic is true to stop bullying and harm from me and from you. Just keep in mind magic can be true we've got the power in me and in you. Use this power for good not bad, and make someone happy when they are sad. Don't just sit there and say you'll do it go get a friend and start working hard to it!'' -- Te Amohaere Rudolph The accolades just keep coming for Oturu Pri- mary School in Kaitaia with 13-year-old Te Amo- haere Rudolph winning the national anti- bullying poetry compe- tition, You ve got the Power, at the end of last year. Te Amohaere says she finds inspiration in life and in art. I love Shakespeare s poetry and plays. Romeo and Juliet is my favour- ite, Te Amohaere says. The poem I wrote for the competition was inspired by personal experience. I also won a trophy at school for a speech I wrote about my experience, she says. Te Amohaere is now working with other Oturu students on a book about the changes their school has undergone over the years. I d love to be pub- lished in the future. It would be great to have a book of my own poetry published. Te Amohaere has asked that the $1000 prize she won for her school be put into the school s enterprise pro- gramme. I think it will keep the programme sus- tainable and help all the kids.
