Kia ora and welcome. the Zone Welcome to KERIKERI the Zone Welcome to KERIKERI The Zone offers quality child care At The Zone: From left: Ashey MacDonald, Nicola MacDonald, owner and co-ordinator Sarah Jane Pinkney and her daughter Alice Jane. By SARAH JANE PINKNEY Welcome to the Zone Before you put your child or children in an after school or holiday programme you need to know exactly who is going to be looking after them. Children are your most valued treasure and you need to ensure that you are leaving them in the right place. These are the services we provide at Welcome to the Zone. We are situated in the old Placemakers building in Sammeree Place, off Mill Lane, Kerikeri. I come from Northland where I completed my pri- mary and secondary edu- cation. I have lived in Kerikeri with my daughter for 10 years. I chose Kerikeri for the lifestyle and I want my daughter to be able to experi- ence all that Northland has to offer. It is a beautiful safe envi- ronment. I believe that all those who live in the Bay of Islands are privileged to be surrounded by such beauty. My daughter and I are both animal lovers. We have two cats, one dog and about 75 goldfish. My daughter would like a zoo but I think we re doing fine on the pet front. I am a primary teacher. I gained my bachelor of teach- ing from Waikato University. I have taught in many areas of a primary school. I have, however, specialised in chil- dren with special needs and learning or behavioural diffi- culties. I have been the director of an OSCAR after school pro- gramme and holiday pro- gramme for three years. Before that I was a super- visor for a holiday pro- gramme where my passion for this type of work began. At Welcome to The Zone our priority is the safety of your children. While in our care they are well supervised and entertained. We provide a stimulating programme, where we ask for advice from the children and you the parents. This is important, because we want you to be as involved as you can be. We help teach children how to make good choices and not to follow others, to be think- ers for themselves, to think outside the square. We teach life skills such as cooking, sewing and wood work. We play games simply because they are fun -- any- thing from old-school party games such as egg and spoon races, sack races, pass the parcel and hide and seek, to soccer, touch rugby and mid- night. We understand that chil- dren of today are technology minded and we provide for that too. We have computers, a digital video camera and an Xbox 260 Kinect, which means your child is the con- troller, there s no sitting down pushing buttons. The Xbox is very physical and interactive. However, there is a limit on each child s turn, which gives everyone a go. We are also very arty-crafty and create things from recycled materials. We will help your child with their homework, with qualified staff and the internet for research. After-school care $14 per afternoon. We close at 5.30pm. Children in the Riverview area can catch the uptown bus to Kerikeri High School where they will be met. Children from Kerikeri Primary and Kerikeri High School will also be met at a designated area. Then all children and adults will do a walking bus to The Zone. Holiday care $32.50 pre-booked for a full day. $37.50 walk-in for a full day, from 8am till 5.30pm. $25 pre-booked for a half day, either 8am-12.30pm, or 1pm-5.30pm. Children are required to bring lunch with them. After school programme Everything is provided for your child. This includes a substantial afternoon tea, which comprises of fruit, vegetables, cheese, crackers and something hot in winter and something cool in sum- mer. Holiday programme. We provide a substantial morning tea and afternoon tea and all activities. We feel that it is important to provide a healthy food choice and help teach good food habits. Quality Holiday and After- School care -- where your children come first. Phone or text Sarah Jane on 021-832-769.
