Life in north Waipapa is a far cry from Marty Weymouth s previous life in Tauranga where he worked in fruit and veg- etable marketing. In just over three years Marty and his partner Glenda Swan have worked hard to establish Marty s Golf Driving Range and Country Cafe. They now offer far more than just a profes- sional 275 metre 12-bay all-weather driving range, set on their 16 acre site on State High- way 10 in north Waipapa. The licensed Tee Tree Cafe has tempting qual- ity homecooked food, cof- fees and beverages with both indoor and al fresco seating. It can cater for most special events and is a popular venue for both children and adult birth- day parties. Group bookings are welcome. With no previous hos- pitality experience the popularity of the cafe cameasabitofasur- prise. We now have regulars who come from as far away as Coopers Beach, Marty says. One of the most asked for dishes is our 18-hole breakfast. They also provide an internet cafe. To keep the children occupied, there s a putting green, play area and pet farm with donkeys and pigs, which supports the SPCA by providing foster care, plus Jake the dog is usually around to pat. Always looking for innovative ideas, Marty and Glenda hold a 33rpm music group from 7pm to 10pm the first Thursday of every month. In addition to the on- site collection, you can take along your own vinyls to play, join in the quiz and help yourself to homemade nibbles at a cost of $10 per head. Sunday afternoon live music is also planned for the new year using local musicians. Currently open from 8am to 5.30pm, they are planning longer opening hours and are always flexible by prior arrange- ment. As a social golfer Marty holds regular nine hole golf days, the next one to be held at Car- rington Golf Resort scheduled for Monday, November 14. Visit www.martys golf.co.nz for details on all that Marty and Glenda can offer. Getting into the swing: Marty's Golf Driving Range.
