Two great Plus-sized brands in one location New book tells the story of the Treaty House The second in a series of new books outlining Waitangi's place in his- tory was launched by the Waitangi National Trust on Sunday. The new book, The Story of the Treaty House, was written by trust chief executive Jeanette Richardson and tells the story of the Treaty House from its kitset origins in Sydney, Australia, to its current role as an iconic re- minder of our rise to nationhood. Waitangi is a place of many stories and many firsts in New Zealand's history. The intention is to produce a collection of illustrated books out- lining some of the more remarkable elements that make Waitangi a very special place,'' Ms Richardson says. The first in the series, The Making of the Treaty, sold more than 2000 copies within a few months of its launch and the second is confidently expected to find similar support and popularity. Further books includ- ing a narrative about the world-renown Waitangi waka, Ngatokimatauw- haorua and Waitangi's pioneering place in New Zealand's winemaking and food production his- tory are expected to fol- low. The books are in- tended to appeal to inter- national tourists and combine to provide a pen-portrait of the role which Waitangi played in our complex bicultural history. Golden trail of glitter Sunday cycle: Kerikeri's Frank Weber, daughter Julia and wife osteopath Lynsay Hurcum-Weber enjoy a Sunday afternoon cycle from Okaihau to Kaikohe. Photos: JENNY ATKINS Pyrite: Fool's gold. All that glitters is not gold. Or is it? One might wonder as one meanders along the cycle trail from Okaihau to Kaikohe. Scattered along the trail are small pieces of shale, glistening gold. Isitgoldorisitnot? The gold speckles are none other than pyrite, commonly called fool's gold and the most com- mon of the sulfide minerals. If you scrape it, it will leave a greenish black streak whereas the real deal will leave a yellow/ gold one.
