Okaihau Smoking wonders Karl Adams: Close behind the champion. Burnout man of the day: George Price in his custom-made Holden vl ute. Big smoke: Logan Wood in his C33 Laurel. Photos: MICHAELA BEADLE Burning rubber addicts were not disappointed with the smoking hot displays at Kaikohe Speedway's burnout competition on August 6. With 23 competitors, a huge variety of cars and the weather on side, con- ditions were perfect for the crowd gathered to enjoy the day's events. George Price took out the competition with his custom-made Holden vl ute that popped tires and flames thanks to some mad ideas, such as placing a spark plug in the exhaust. George took the lead over Carl Adams who showed great handling and smoke but missed out on the lead due to point penalties. Next in his V8 Commodore was the Kawakawa favourite, Avon Renata. Avon's big smoking tyre-popping Holden disappeared in all the smoke. Finally, Logan Wood in his big smoke and big drift C33 Laurel proved he was a worthy con- tender with his outright mad style that he managed to keep going all day long. Throughout the day there were insane burnouts with the likes of Shane Morris, aka Poxamus Prime, in his very sexy Mazda S6 RX7 running a 13b turbo. William Thompson was on form with his big drifts big smoke and insane car control, and while Carl Adams had a rough start, he soon ripped it up in his Hol- den running a 5ltr V8 5speed with his foot flat to the floor and the steering on full lock. Kaikohe Speedway would like to thank those who supported the day and all sponsors. Keep an eye out for the next event on the website www.kaikohe carclub.com.
