On August 27, from 9am to 1pm, the Plunket Rooms, Kerikeri Rd will be the place to pick up bargains for all your little one s needs. Plunket is asking for donations of clothes, books, toys and equip- ment for babies and small children to sell at the sale. Already stock is build- ing up, but they need more to make the sale a fundraising success. Items can be dropped off at the Plunket Rooms Monday to Friday. If col- lection is needed, call Heather on 407-5535. Plunket is New Zealand s largest pro- vider of support services for the development, health and well-being of children under five, working together with families and communi- ties to ensure the best start for every child. Your local Plunket is a busy place -- situated on Kerikeri Rd, they wel- come families from the area to use its clinics, car seat rental scheme, parent groups and attend workshops. There are also regular fundra- isers going ahead such as the annual Santa s Grotto and the upcoming Pre Loved Sale. We are proud to serve our community and try to plan our fundraising events to give something back to our local famil- ies, community support co-ordinator Heather Rose says. For Kerikeri clinic appointments call 407-9488. The rental scheme in Kerikeri offers the hire of car seats (also cots and high chairs on short term hire) and advice on choosing, using and fitting child restraints at reasonable prices. Contact Suzy, who is a trained tech- nician, on 407-3552. The Plunket Rooms has a buzzing playgroup on Mondays at 10am for parents and children to get together, and a New Mums group on a Wednesday at 10am. The Playground at Plunket is fantastic, being 100 percent child friendly and fully fenced, complete with swings, slides, bikes and an awe- some big sand pit. Local companies BNZ, Mitre 10 and the students from an enterprise project at Springbank School have helped to renovate existing sheds to create a mini Kerikeri Rd. The Plunket Rooms can also be hired out for birthday parties and meetings for just $30 -- complete with playground, toys, kitchen and bathroom. We rely heavily on the support from our sponsors, local busi- nesses and other members of the com- munity and appreciate their help, Heather says. Last year BNZ staff painted the inside of the Plunket Rooms beauti- fully bright colours and have raised money with sausage sizzles, The Magic Playhouse managed the Santa s Grotto, individuals have offered to water blast for us, Regent Training Col- lege have gardened, the Guides have cleaned toys and we have been lucky to secure funding from Pub Charity and the Lion Foundation for new toys. Over the past year, the rooms have been hit by vandalism. The sandpit cover was burnt, as was the inside of the climbing apparatus. We have also had a window broken and large toys stolen during clinic times. Plunket is continually developing and improv- ing its services. It is offering free infant mass- age courses, St John everyday first aid course, and is keen to promote the Mums N Bubs Aqua Fit at Little Dippers, parenting courses at Kingston House and the Mums N Bubs Cathay Cinema sessions, once a month on a Wednesday. There are also plans for a weekly story time session down at the Plunket Rooms. If you would like to add your email address to the monthly newsletter list, would be interested in joining our committee or would like any further information about your local Plunket, contact Heather on 407-5535 or heather.rose@ plunket.org.nz.
