Upset loss for Kerikeri It was an upset for Kerikeri football club on Saturday as Tikipunga dealt them their first defeat. Kerikeri hosted Tikipunga in the semifinal of the Staf- ford Choat Cup. Kerikeri tried to overcome the opposition's tactics by playing the ball round the back of their defence, but didn't test the Tikipunga keeper. The turning point came when Mark Roberts received an elbow to the jaw, which resulted in a caution for the Tikipunga player. The follow- ing move set up a corner and Tikipunga had a free header which rebounded off Isaac Laurie Williams on to the crossbar and bounced over the goal line. Kerikeri started the second half with a vengeance and started to test the Tikipunga defence, Dwain Beasley came close twice to getting his side back into the game and sub- stitute Tomas Trombik made a fine run into the box, but his shot just flew wide. . Final score 1-0 to Tikipunga. Kerikeri's next game is away to Auckland side Ranui Swanson.
