Hip hop to a higher level World champions: Aucklander's Request won the adult division at last year's world hip hop dance championships. It pulled a record crowd of more than 1000 people last year. And organisers of the fourth Northland Hip Hop Dance Champion- ships on Saturday week hope this year s battle for places at the national champs will attract even bigger crowds. Hardcore Dance Com- pany spokeswoman Kath Corby says 14 teams competed in last year s contest. She encourages hip hop groups who didn t take part to think about entering the champion- ships which decide who will represent New Zea- land at the world hip hop champs in Las Vegas in July. Interested groups should email Hardcore Dance Company direc- tors Annalise and Hay- den Wood on info@hard coredance.co.nz for a registration pack or phone (09) 459-6909 or 021-744-727. The Northland cham- pionships will be held at Kensington Stadium in Whangarei on March 26. Doors open at 3.30pm with the show starting at 4pm. Registrations and tickets $10 per person. The national cham- pionships will be held in Auckland in April. Go to www.northern news.co.nz to see last year's world hip hop champ winners.
