Five wins in a row for Bay pony club Champions again: Mounted riders, from left: Fenella Carter on Apple Mac, Tegan Newman on Zues 11, Abbi Robinson on Super Model, Peter Deverall on Zoolander, Jessica Warren on Trinket, and Jessica Carter on Gunna. Front: Coach-Kate Hewlett with baby Rita, groom Arnica Horsfall, coach Tim Featherstone and manager Tracy Carter. The Bay of Islands Pony Club enjoyed a convincing win at the North Island Pony Club Show Jumping Champion- ships this month. The team won by a margin of 40 points to secure their status as cham- pions for the fifth year in a row. The Bay team consisted of juniors Jessica Warren and Fenella Carter, intermediate riders Tegan Newman and Abbi Robinson, and seniors Jes- sica Carter and Pete Deverell. Jessica Warren also won the Vinnie Cup, which is awarded to the rider who gains the most points over the course of the competition. Kate Hewlett and Tim Featherstone trav- elled and coached for the fiercely com- petitive event. Riders and horses had multiple rounds of jumping on each day gaining points for their team if they finished in a top 10 placing after each of the com- pleted rounds. With 72 riders per class and some sections requiring riders to jump three times to place, the grooms Arnica Horsfall and Charlotte Ander- son and coaches did a fantastic job of keeping horses and riders ready for their next round of jumping.
