The format of play was a two-life system of four games per day of 21 shots or 1 hour, with no time limit for the final/possible final. Women: The women entered were: Barbara Balle, Ngaire Watts, Norma Hall, Pam Roughton, Tara Sellars, Maureen Messenger, Linda Hunt, Margaret Wildbore, Lisa O'Brien, Dianne Osborne, Pam Naylor, and Bunty Barron. After three rounds, Ngaire and Bunty were the two lifers and Pam Roughton, Pam Naylor, Maureen Messenger and Linda Hunt all had one life. Ngaire took a life off Bunty 18-13, Pam Roughton put Pam Naylor out 21-1, and Maureen ended Linda's day 20-7. Pam Roughton then took a life off Ngaire 15-13 to earn a bye into the final, and Maureen put Bunty out. Maureen then beat Ngaire 17-16 to play Pam in the final. Congratulations to Maureen who took the title. Men: Murray Pope, Brian Hardy, Denis Hailey, Jim Naylor, Dave Roughton and Derek Stickland lined up for the men' event. After the third round Jim retained his two lifes, with the one lifers being Dave and Brian, Dave received a bye to the possible final while Jim and Brian battled it out. Jim took the game and then defeated Dave to win the title 21-15 with his two lifes still in tact. Congratulations to Maureen and Jim who now go forward to represent the Coopers Beach Bowling Club in the Bowls Far North Centre Champion of Champion events. Thirteen teams entered the Greg Muller Autos Mary Reed open mixed triples on Wednesday, December 29. Catering for people on holiday wanting a game of bowls this tournament was held in mufti. Playing four games of one hour 15 minutes on wins, ends, points the locals joined in with visitors from Kaitaia Combined, Far North RSA, Oruru Bowling Clubs and other visitors from the Midlands in England, and Melbourne.
