The last person a Botswana airport official would call with questions about her air- port baggage handling sys- tem would be a customer ser- vice rep in Kaikohe, New Zealand -- right? Surprisingly, that s the first point of contact -- if that airport official happens to be a customer of New Zealand multi-national, Glidepath, which has outsourced its international helpdesk to the Far North Customer Contact Centre business and Top Energy Group subsidiary, PHONEplus. Glidepath is a world leader in the design, installation and servicing of airport bag- gage handling systems. It s completed more than 550 projects in 60 countries. With headquarters in Auckland, Glidepath employs a skilled team of mechanical, electri- cal, and computer software engineers, project managers and international sales managers to support its tech- nology and marketing programmes. PHONEplus provides the customer service interface, to help Glidepath s clients stay in touch, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. PHONEplus has also col- laborated with another lead- ing New Zealand company, ACTIVboard NZ to bring cut- ting edge technologies to schools in this country and around Australia. PHONEplus general man- ager Kathryn Starr says the company s teams are comfort- able with high tech products and helping people to use them. By partnering with suc- cessful New Zealand compan- ies, managing email and voice communications with their customers wherever they might be located, we are creating jobs in a rural area which is important locally and for the economy gener- ally, she says. PHONEplus has invested in state-of-the-art customer management software, tele- phony, computer hardware and ongoing quality telesales operator training to maintain best practice standards. Both Glidepath and ActivBoard have taken the decision to have their cus- tomer service and telesales functions managed by New Zealand-based customer con- tact centres in a reversal of the trend of past years. Nadene Gavigan of the Contact Centre Institute of New Zealand says the work being done so successfully by PHONEplus reflects a return by New Zealand companies to servicing their customers using local people. It s fantastic to see a rural location such as Kaikohe using telecommunication technologies to take market share and create new jobs like this, Ms Gavigan says. SPCA grateful for generosity and foster families The Bay of Islands SPCA wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and says a big thank you to the people of the Bay of Islands for their gener- osity in 2010 which has helped save lives and find homes for abandoned and unwanted animals. The school received the award after introducing a nutrition policy that includes wha- nau education and curriculum-linked physi- cal fitness and nutrition activities. Foundation healthy heart award co- ordinator Desley Austin says the school is proud to get the award because it recognises the hard work the children have done in their fruit tree and vegetable gardens. Their school motto is: Our school is life learn- ing, so what they learn at school around nutrition and activity will be life-long. The Healthy Heart Award is a free pro- gramme partially funded by the Health Ministry. It encourages early childhood centres to promote healthy eat- ing and physical exercise to under-fives and their families. Go online to www.heartfoundation. org.nz for more infor- mation or phone Desley Austen at her Kaitaia office on( 09) 408-2715 to register.
