Hermanas Help in store from family good sports The Hazelden family really walks the talk. After spending all day sur- rounded by sports gear, the self- confessed sports-mad family loves nothing better than to get out in the open air. Robyn likes to walk, Eric runs, Sarah plays soccer, while David hunts, fishes and dives. It s little wonder that with their passion for sport, they ended up owning a Stirling Sports store. Eric and Robyn have been in the industry for eight years and shifted from their previous location on Kerikeri s main street to bigger premises in Waipapa in August 2008. Son David started working full- time in the store last December. Michelle completes the team and specialises in apparel and footwear. In addition to fitness equip- ment, tramping, camping, fishing and hunting gear, balls and racquets, the store is renowned for stocking an extensive range of both fashion and technical apparel. And with more room at Waipapa, they offer a wider range of footwear to meet the grow- ing demand for specialist foot- wear. So much so that the couple has installed the New Zealand- designed Silicon Coach technology to help customers find the foot- wear best-suited to their specific walking or running style. Eric says wearing the right shoe can minimise the risk of injuries and enhance your performance. He cites their nephew as a good example of how the technology can help. He was on the verge of rep- resenting New Zealand for long- distance running but was plagued by stress fractures. Analysis of his running style and a change of footwear has assisted his recovery and he came third overall in the recent Fullers GreatSights Bay of Islands Kerikeri Half Marathon. The technology is a highly regarded training and injury rehabilitation tool and many local physiotherapists are referring patients to Stirling Sports for a fitting, because they re the only ones north of Whangarei with this technology. Silicon Coach works by filming a customer running or walking on a treadmill. Frame by frame replay allows the consultant to analyse factors such as toe off, heel strike, pro- nation (ankle roll inwards) and supronation (ankle roll outwards). Once the issues are diagnosed, customers are shown a range of shoes that will work best for them. They then make the final decision based on fit, comfort, style and budget. The service is completely free and takes less than 30 minutes -- bookings are recommended. All shoes purchased after a Sili- con Coach consultation come with a 30-day money back guarantee offer. Vineyards toast their vintages Boutique vineyards will celebrate their best vin- tage at a wine and food festival near Waipapa on Sunday week. Eight vineyards and wineries will offer wine from their 2010 vintage at Fat Pig Winery, 177 Puketotara Rd, on December 12. Five of Northland s top chefs will cook at the fes- tival which runs from 11.30am to 5.30pm and is an adults-only event. Musicians Dan the Man and Band will pro- vide entertainment. Entry to the festival is by festival wine glass which can be bought from the Fat Pig cellar door for $20. Wine can be purchased by glass or bottle. Parking will be avail- able in the paddock next to the vineyard. No beer, wine, food or animals are to be brought on to the vineyard during the fes- tival. Go to www.fat pig.co.nz.
