Photo: MARGARET DAVIS Perfect track conditions made for fast and furious racing at the Kaikohe Speedway on November 14.Speedway spokes- woman Debbie Taylor says the clay track offered awesome drive and grip, thanks to Max Andresen and his team who had moulded, watered and graded the track for races. The production boys were first to try the track at the meeting which was well attended by all grades of car, including all-terrain vehicles. Bruce, 94, was the pace setter with Rex, 8, on pole and six more adrenalin-pumped racers behind as they came around cemetery bend and the green flag dropped. Bruce took lead pos- ition as he powered under the flag with Sexy Rex hot on his heels and Ray Dare, 888, Darren Emm, 102, and Myles Greenwood battling for minor positions. A little rubbing and position-swapping on the corners made for a great race before Darren went wide on round four, leav- ing a gap for Myles to take third, Rex second and Bruce first. Placing for lead was also hotly-contested in the Ladies C Grade as Debb Wilson, 85, pushed veteran racer Wendy Scott for major position leaving Kahlia Scott in minor position. Junior driver Sonny Halliday got faster as the day progressed, manag- ing to get two wheels off the ground going around cemetery bend. Quad bikes are becom- ing a regular grade at the track with bigger grades likely to compete in the New Year. Darren Emm NZ1 was the first casualty of the day, tumbling from his bike after hitting Gavin Millen 157 in what seemed like a slow- motion collision. Jason Halliday, 302, failed to finish rounds two and three in the big boys race after losing his rear tyre twice. Mad Max, 58, and Anthony Dale, 44, swap- ped for major position in the super saloon race, Max ending up with a red flag and a special award for not attaching his fuel cap properly.
